Overview

Min Rate = $99,828.00 / Max Rate = $149,742.00 

This position is responsible for the oversight of Women and Children’s Services in conjunction with the Director of Specialty Care Services.  This individual displays compliance in the 5 core healthcare competencies of interdisciplinary team work, quality improvement, evidence base practice, patient focused care, and informatics.  This individual will have knowledge of operations, regulations and reimbursement for inpatient and outpatient Women and Children Services including organizational planning, compliance with regulatory standards, fiscal management, setting and maintaining standards of nursing care and practice, coordinating services and providing for the professional growth of staff.   The Nurse Manager has the authority, responsibility, and accountability for the overall program operations and patient care provided in a clinical area 24/7.

Responsibilities

Teamwork and Communication

  • Effective Communication: Disseminates information in a clear, transparent way allowing continual feedback. 
  • Facilitate teams and engage diverse groups in decision making.
  • Contributes productively and encourages the full participation of all team members by making maximum use of the group’s diversity.
  • Develops credibility and effective relationships with the Medical staff, Ancillary personnel, Bargaining unions and community leaders.
  • Serves as a resource internally and in the community, positively representing the health care profession and organization.
  • Effectively communicates management standards to staff to achieve understanding and acceptance
  • Welcomes new members to the CVPH team by promoting a strong mission and vision of the organization and department.
  • Responsible for the clinical operations 24/7.
  • Evidence-Based Practice/Health Care Environment

  • Demonstrates knowledge of current nursing practice ensuring compliance with standards of care and practice, State Nurse Practice Act, State/Federal Regulations and Professional Association (i.e. AWHONN, AAP, ACOG, NANN , NACHRI and NYS Perinatal Regional Standards).
  • Assist managers/staff who has direct line responsibility in the development of departmental goals and objectives. Collaborates in establishing priorities and plans for implementation.  Monitors progress and holds managers/staff accountable for accomplishments of the goals in the agreed timeframes.
  • Assists managers to evaluate and serve as a change agents assuring appropriate patient care delivery systems models of care and work flow.
  • Understands and applies knowledge of healthcare economies and policy, participates in political legislation when applicable to promote Women and Children healthcare in the community.
  • Serves as a resource to managers/staff in the planning development, implementation and evaluation of new programs utilizing evidence-based and best practices. Conducts the necessary research for such program development utilizing current literature, site visits, and other appropriate resources.
  • Service Line Development and Implementation

  • Is responsible for development of the service line by increasing the hospital’s presence, competitiveness, and profitability in the market.
  • Assist in the development of best practice models. Assisting in moving the organization forward in an increasingly competitive and cost sensitive environment. 
  • Meets organizational expectations as defined by the hospital and department policies and procedures, and the hospital's strategic goals. Verbalizes a clear understanding of continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction measures and actively participates in improvement initiatives.
  • Markets the Services Line program to the community and referring physicians.
  • Collaborates with Cardiac, Rehabilitation Services and Oncology Service Line Directors to create a cohesive working relationship that promotes the goals and vision of the organizations strategic goals
  • Develops business plans for program development with specific goals for volume, productivity, P&L and marketing for inpatient and outpatient staff.
  • Works with physicians to identify opportunities for program and volume growth.
  • Informatics/Business Skills

  • Works collaboratively with Human Resources and departments to continuously evaluate and improve the orientation and continuing education programs for patient service personnel.
  • Manages the department’s operational and capital budgets.
  • Knowledgeable on the effective application of informatics resources for patient care, processes and data.
  • Develops and monitors department staffing plan and uses resources cost effectively.
  • Develops and Participates in the education and staff concerning financial implications of patient care decisions.
  • Quality/Patient Focused Care

  • Demonstrate service excellence in all work with always putting patient care needs first.
  • Demonstrates and monitors (Validates) hourly rounding on a daily basis ensuring management and staff accountability.
  • Supports the development and implementation of organization wide patient safety and quality programs.
  • Demonstrates Rounding on staff and patients.
  • Leadership/Professional Practice

  • Communicates effectively with clinical leaders to meet goals and enhance clinical performance.
  • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and maintains knowledge of current professional in nursing leadership practices.
  • Create new programs after thorough analysis of organization/unit needs, and community and external environments.
  • Demonstrates and models the ability to hold self and others accountable
  • Promotes and creates a positive view of Nursing and Leadership
  • Serves as a coach and mentor, willing to teach and be taught.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing required.  Master's preferred.
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse licensure required.
  • Certifications required: NRP, PALS, MA, MSN or equivalent.
  • Must demonstrate leadership and managerial abilities with good oral and written communication skills.
  • Three (3) years previous experience in maternal and child health leadership with Healthcare Leadership required. 
  • Microsoft Office, quality/risk management system, electronic medical record system, bed management system as applicable, transport/resource management as applicable, learning management system, automated medication dispensing system as applicable, staffing/scheduling system, MSDS, automated communication system, WCC EMR, other role specific technology.
  • Meets requirements of pre-employment screening and physical.
