Frequently Asked Questions

How does this program differ from other pathway programs?

This pathway program is designed to offer full-time employees of Vermont UVMHN partners the opportunity to advance their nursing careers to become Licensed Practical Nurses. The original program offered by Central Vermont Medical Center has had the opportunity to invite and include all Vermont UVM Health Network partners to participate in this program in order to expand our available nursing seats with Vermont State University.

What is the program structure for classes and clinicals?

This program will operate in an evening and weekend format for classes and clinicals. Classes will be held in the evenings at the CVMC classroom and Williston Vermont State sites. Clinicals will be held at CVMC and UVMMC every other weekend during the duration of the program. Participants may be required to travel for classes and/or clinicals.

How many work hours are required during the program?

Year 1 – While taking pre-requisites at CCV, students will work their full-time scheduled hours. Students will coordinate with their managers to flex their regular schedule to allow them to attend class as needed.

Year 2 – While enrolled in the LPN program at VTSU, students will work their regular job 48 hours per pay period. Students will receive pay for an additional 24 hours per pay period to allow time for classwork, lab/clinical instruction, and studying.

How does tuition reimbursement work?

Year 1 – Students will not need to take out any loans. Tuition, fees, and textbooks will be prepaid by the employer. If a student chooses not to continue with the program or leaves employment, they will be responsible for these costs.

Year 2 – Students are responsible for paying all tuition and fees. For graduates who commit to working at their respective partner location for three years, they will reimbursed in one-third increments for all out-of-pocket tuition, fee, and books costs beginning one year after graduation.
