What is Project SEARCH?

Project SEARCH is an innovative, business-led, school to work transition program for young adults with disabilities. Project SEARCH began in 1996 at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. There are over 600 Project SEARCH sites throughout the United States and internationally.

The University of Vermont Medical Center supports Project SEARCH in partnership with the Howard Center, South Burlington School District, HireAbility Vermont, and the Vermont Agency of Education.

  • Eligibility Requirements

    • Applicants should be in their final year of high school or a recent high school graduate.
    • Applicants commit to work 16 hours or more per week upon completion of the program.
    • Applicants must have the desire and commitment to achieve competitive employment in an integrated work environment.
  • Daily Schedule (see below)

    • 8:30-9:30 Classroom Training
    • 9:30-10:00 Travel to Internship Locations
    • 10:00-2:00 Internship (With Half-Hour Lunch)
    • 2:00-2:30 Travel to Classroom
    • 2:30-3:00 Classroom Training
  • Internship Rotations at the University of Vermont Medical Center Include:

    • Central Sterile Reprocessing
    • Distribution
    • Linen & Laundry
    • Environmental Services
    • Patient & Family Experience
    • Phlebotomy
