The physical therapy team at the University of Vermont Medical Center is comprised of a dynamic team of highly skilled and experienced physical therapists who provide hands-on, one-on-one clinical care. Responsibilities include management of nonoperative, pre- and post-surgical patients and athletes of all ages with a wide range of orthopedic injuries and conditions to facilitate healing, minimize disability and enhance quality of life.  We focus on functional rehabilitation, performance enhancement, and return to sport by collaborating with orthopedic and sports medicine providers, many of whom are co-located within the same building (Sports, Total Joint, Trauma, Spine, Foot and Ankle, Upper Extremity, Pediatric Orthopedics). As a Level 1 Trauma Center, UVMMC serves patients of all ages across northern Vermont and New York.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Provides direct patient care including evaluations, consultations, development of treatment plans centered on functional limitations and patient needs.
  • Skillfully applies therapeutic techniques to address patient treatment needs. Interventions may include, but are not limited to, therapeutic exercise, functional training, manual therapy, (including soft tissue and joint mobilization); custom orthosis fabrication, physical agents/ modalities; and patient-related education (including home exercise program).
  • Develops trusted relationships with referring providers, contributing to marketing and community outreach efforts.
  • Helps ensure well-run clinical operations by completing necessary documentation and billing in a quality manner.
  • Manages caseload effectively and uses excellent time management, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates the flexibility to accommodate and facilitate proficient patient care, including a willingness to provide care at more than one rehab therapy site as needed.
  • Stays current with trends and practices in therapeutic evaluation and treatment, supporting evidence-based practice.
  • Participates in clinical education, staff meetings and quality improvement programs, and staff development projects.
  • Demonstrates excellent time management, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Supervises physical therapy students to develop their clinical skills and ensure the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Complies with all pertinent rules and regulations within the State Practice Act and the American Physical Therapy Association’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
  • Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Science (or higher) degree from an Accredited Physical Therapy program. Licensed or eligible to be licensed to practice physical therapy in the State of Vermont.

EXPERIENCE:

3-5 years of experience in outpatient orthopedics is ideal. Will consider a new graduate with strong sports/orthopedic clinical experience.

Experience in sports therapy preferred.
