Job Summary:
The Research Supervisor is responsible for oversight and management of clinical trials operations for the UVMMC/UVM-LCOM Department of Neurological Sciences. They oversee, evaluate, and develop a full array of support services and resources for efficient, safe, compliant, and high-quality execution of clinical research studies from protocol development to close-out. In close collaboration with faculty members and principal investigators, the supervisor is responsible for continuously assessing the needs of the department’s clinical research community and modifying services in response to these needs. The Supervisor supports a full spectrum of studies and translational research projects, from interventional trials with experimental drugs and devices to minimal-risk observational clinical research studies. A successful candidate must possess the ability to work independently and function effectively as part of a team of faculty investigators, physicians, postdoctoral fellows, research coordinators and technical and executive administrative staff.

The Supervisor will guide and direct the research staff, study coordinators, research nurses, financial analysts and data managers, assigned to the various research programs within Neurological Sciences establishing and implementing operational standards and monitoring progress. Additionally, the Supervisor will oversee education, orientation and continuing professional education for the research staff, related to conducting clinical trials. The Supervisor possesses leadership and team management capabilities, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence while working in teams, mentoring people, and overseeing projects.  The position requires strong analytical, critical thinking, organizational and problem-solving skills. 

A successful Supervisor will be expected to standardize research operations across the department, emphasize the importance of conducting patient-centered project, collaborate with investigators to grow the department’s research footprint, and work with research staff and investigators to maintain research program profitability. 

Education:
Master’s degree required, PhD preferred in a relevant field (e.g., Social Sciences, Data Science, Clinical and Translational Science, etc.)

Experience:
6+ years of experience in clinical research operations in an academic setting. 
Preferred scientific background in neuroscience / neurology.
