Overview:
The Lab Application Analyst is responsible for helping maintain the operation and maintenance of the laboratory information systems, assisting with implementation of system software, interface changes, and serving as a resource to users regarding application functionality.
The Lab Application Analyst provides support and leadership for all Laboratory Medicine staff by providing input and feedback on proposed work flows. The Lab Application Analyst is expected to set the example in performing all job duties. They will develop an in-depth understanding of business and/or clinical processes within the clinical department or business unit.
Responsibilities:
- Provides application analysis and support
- Perform system procedures such as back-ups, data retention, processing, system updates
- Responds appropriately whenever contacted to address urgent system support needs which may arise unexpectedly
- Assist in the analysis and interpretation of customer needs
- Work with Application Managers/Directors/etc. and the entire Project Team, to collect, analyze and document business operations and workflow.
- Assist in the monitoring and review of system performance
- Strong understanding of systems, interfaces, and integration
- Provides application project support for new installs and upgrades within their area of expertise.
- Maintain knowledge of appropriate development tools
- Ensures all quality assurance processes are followed, including change management and testing efforts
- Learns and adheres to departments standards, policies, and procedures
- Make recommendations, review and test changes, enhancements, and each new release as assigned.
- Functions as an effective team player
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 3-5 years of experience maintaining Laboratory Information Systems preferred.
- At least 3-5 years of experience designing and building of laboratory systems.
- Epic Beaker experience preferred.
- Experience in laboratory or health care environments preferred.
- Bachelor Degree in related Computer Science areas or Laboratory Science areas or equivalent experience preferred but applicable work experience will be considered.
- Epic certification required or achieved within 120 days of hire with a maximum of three attempts.
- Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills required to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
- Ability to work flexible schedules to meet job requirements; requires periodic after-hours support and some evenings/weekends during upgrades.
- The Applications Analyst will be fully trained and ready to assume on-call responsibilities to provide support coverage 24 hours per day, 7 days per week on a rotating basis within 1 year of hire. The ability and means to regularly travel throughout the UVM Health Network may be required.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
- Has the ability to work independently under minimal supervision; ability to mentor others in the use of laboratory systems and provide guidance to Laboratory Medicine staff in troubleshooting problems.
- Ability to prioritize issues and drive progress in ambiguous situations.
