JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Lead Ophthalmic Technician will provide technical support and assistance to the Ophthalmic Physicians in order to facilitate the evaluation, treatment, and management of patients receiving specialized ophthalmic care.    As the lead technical member of the Ophthalmic team, this position functions as a coach and mentor to the other techs.  This position is responsible for working with the Practice Supervisor to ensure smooth clinical flow and providing safe patient care.   

EDUCATION:

Associates degree or at least two years of specialized training in Ophthalmology is required. Must have certification from JCAPHO at either the COT, COMT level, or hold specialized certification in Ophthalmic Photography.  If applicant is not a COT, COT certification must be achieved within one year of obtaining position. 

EXPERIENCE:

Advanced knowledge of Clinical Optics, Visual Fields and Ophthalmic Laser procedures.  Individual must have a comprehensive understanding of microbial control-sanitation, disinfection, sterilization and contamination.  Job requires advanced knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, system diseases and Ocular emergencies.
